My very own REFLECTION... ;">

Our world nowadays is improving. Lots of new and more upgraded gadgets, machineries, and other high technologies were popping and emerging in this generation: from large and thick cellphones to small and thin ones, from big heavy thick computers to small lightweight thin laptops,  from full-of-wire microphones to wireless pea-sized microphone, and many more technology-evolutions.
And so, as a future teacher who lives in this modern world, it is very important for me to know much of these things especially that someday, I will be handling a modern class of students as well. However, I was grateful that there came an Educational Technology subject – my major subject wherein intellect is not only the one that is needed in learning but also the skills and the application of it to our daily lives. As what our Ed.Tech. 2 instructor taught us, “Educational Technology is the application of scientific process in the field of Education”. And this subject, did a great help to me as an education student. It really trained me how to be creative as well as to manipulate things particularly to those technologies that can be used in school to access a good learning process. I was very glad that after this 1st semester, I am now able to know lots of things, like: Visualizing things; identifying the different shades; sketching human faces; the use of the 9 different techniques in drawing; the art of non-objective shapes; manipulating the OHP
(Overhead Projector) inside the class; the importance of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher, and; most importantly, on how to make an online journal or the so-called “Blog”.
With these activities that I have encountered and the learnings that I gained in Educational Technology 2 subject, I can now proudly say that: “I am now halfway on my journey to become a certified educator!” And thanks to my Ed.Tech.2 instructor, Mr. Helmar G. Ycong, for being an effective Educational Technology teacher. J

Exercise # 12: Web Blog

This was the twelfth and the last exercise that we made in Ed. Tech. 2. This was the most tiresome and time-consuming exercise ever. In this exercise we made our own “online journal” which was commonly called as “Blog”. This was where we compiled all our exercises in Educational Technology 2 subject. This, too, was our final requirement to pass the said subject.

What I Learned…?

Actually, I already knew how to make my own blog online. It’s just that I already forgot how to do it again. Thanks to this subject. It made me remember again the ways in customizing a blog’s template, as well as its layout and background. Furthermore, I was able to retrieve my old blog (the one I made when I was still in high school) which I have forgotten to update long time ago.

Exercise # 11: Movie Maker

This was the eleventh activity that we made in PREd 152. In this activity, we use the windows movie maker. This was another application in Microsoft where we could make or edit our own videos. This was my most favorite activity. Because, we made our own movie and we acted as if we were professional actors and actresses. It was fun!

What I Learned…?

What I learned in this activity was that, I already knew how to make my own film. And by this activity, I was able to make one which was entitled “Pollution: An Environmental Issue” that served as an Educational show. However, my groupmates and I encountered difficulties in making our movie due to the technical problems which our laptop was experiencing. I also learned that movie making as well as editing was not an easy thing to do. You have to exert more patience especially, when your movie maker application won’t respond or will hang sometimes.

Exercise # 10: MS Publisher

This was the tenth exercise that we made. In this exercise we use the MS Publisher, an application of Microsoft to make a greeting card, a business card, and an award certificate.

Award Certificate

Greeting Card

Business Card

What I Learned…?

Ii this activity, I learned how to make my own greeting cards, business cards, and even certificates through the MS Publisher. I can now easily send greetings to my friends and loved ones. And who knows? I might put up a printing business someday! All I have to do is to apply what I learned in PREd 152.

Exercise # 09: MS Excel

This was the ninth exercise that we made. In this exercise we used the MS Excel Microsoft application where we can compute easily the grades of the students with the use of some formulas.

What I Learned…?

The thing that I learned in this exercise was that, MS Excel could be very useful for teachers in computing grades. There was no need of calculators, as long as you already knew the formulas. I already knew now on how to make grades using the MS excel. Even though this exercise is quite difficult but still I managed to overcome with this activity.

Exercise # 08: MS PowerPoint Presentation

This was the eighth exercise that we made in PREd 152. In this exercise we made first a story board based on our lesson plan. The storyboard was made to be our guide in making our power point presentation. To put some colors to our presentation, we applied different effects such as the animations and transitions on each of the slides, so that the viewers could obtain a meaningful learning.

What I Learned…?

My learnings in the past have been more added by what I have learned in this activity. Before, what I only knew about powerpoint was only to encode and add some slides on it. But now, I have already known that lots of animations and transitions could be applied to my powerpoint presentation with matching sound effects. Moreover, I also learned the importance of this to the teachers particularly, during lectures. With the help of MS Powerpoint Presentation, the students will be more motivated to listen to their teacher.

Exercise # 07: MS Word

This was the seventh exercise that we made. In this exercise we use the MS Word application of Microsoft. We encoded our lesson plans in this application and sent it to our instructor via e-mail. Our instructor let us to use any kind of MS Word versions. The version which was available on my lappy was this MS Word 2010, and so, this was what I used.

What I Learned…?

What I learned about this seventh exercise was that, I was able to know the value and the importance of knowing about the MS Word especially, that most of the documents or files and even reports of the teachers nowadays must be encoded neatly and printed clearly. Handwritten papers are no longer common in this generation. Good thing there’s MS Word which could maintain the “Paperless Mode” of education.

Exercise # 06: Over-Head Projector (OHP)

This was the sixth exercise that we made. In this exercise we use transparency sheets in writing our lessons to be tackled assumingly. So, the transparency sheets served as our IMs which would be put on top of the OHP mount.

What I Learned…?

What I learned in this activity was that, I already knew how to use and manipulate the over-head projector and the techniques of using the transparency sheets such as the “overlay” of images that were drawn on it.

Exercise # 05: Non-Objective Shapes

This was the fifth exercise that we made. In this activity, we did a one minute drawing with both of our eyes closed and without seeing the direction of our marker which we used in drawing. As the result, we have drawn a “balangkas” or an irregular drawing that composed of non-objective shapes. In my drawing below, I was able to form a mouse.

What I Learned…?

From this activity, I learned that even non-objective shapes can be considered too as a work of art. And also, I learned that this technique of drawing will help in motivating the students particularly in an art class. This exercise was surely fun!

Exercise # 04: Nine Techniques

This was the fourth exercise that we made. In this exercise, we applied the nine techniques in drawing. Those nine techniques are the techniques of using horizontal, vertical, diagonal, cross, zigzag, spirals, and circle lines, and also the used of dots and smudge through the pencil lead. Our instructor instructed us to use the tree as our subject to emphasize the techniques and for us to draw easily.

What I Learned…?

In this activity, I learned that there are lots of techniques which I could use in drawing things. With the help of those techniques, I could now draw easily – which is very important for me in making my IMs. Also, I learned that combining some of those techniques will make a cute art.

Exercise # 03: The Human Face

This was the third exercise that we made. What we did in this activity was that we draw a human face with the application of some various techniques. We draw six similar oblongs first before we put the eyes, nose, ears, and hair as well.

What I Learned…?

What I learned in this exercise was that, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have talent to draw. As long as you knew the techniques (even if those techniques you knew are just basic), then you will be able to draw almost perfectly. And about this human faces that we have drawn, I learned that drawing people’s faces wasn’t difficult. It’s just that, it will take you minutes in measuring their faces. J

Exercise # 02: Bottle and Plants with Shades

This was the second exercise that we made. This time, there were already some subjects.  A wine bottle and a Kataka-taka plant served as our subjects  which we will be going to copy based on how they were presented by their brightness, saturation, and more importantly – their shade.

What I learned…?

Through this activity, I learned how to draw by just observing and giving lots of focus on my subject. If you’re an artist and you don’t have enough focus and concentration to your work, then you can’t identify the unique angle of your subject. You  can’t determine whether that part is dark or that part may be bright. Moreover, I learned that patience in drawing shady things is likewise important. Without patience, your work might be ruined. :P

Exercise # 01: Visualization

This was the first exercise that we made in our PREd 152 lab. In this activity, we are taught to draw anything in which we were able to visualize FREEDOM, UNITY, STRENGTH, and ENERGY based on our drawings with some brief descriptions about each of those.

What I Learned…?

Because of this activity, I was now able to use visualization in the field of art. Even though, there was no medium that was presented by our instructor in front of us to be copied and drawn, still I have managed to draw based on what I have imagined or visualized. It was then I’ve realized that visualization made us humans to become unique.
